My favourite part of the speaker’s report thus far, concerning why the clerk expensed a $3,200 wood-splitter
The Speaker’s report goes into excruciating detail on what magazines the clerk expenses, what ties he expenses, and what “old people having trouble with computers” problems he expenses #weirdzoomissue
So there are many questions here about the expenses made by the clerk while in the UK, but the weirdest claim is DEFINITELY the mustard
According to the report, the Sergeant at Arms was lobbying the Speaker (whom he barely knew) to fire the Clerk, while ALSO making jokes about inappropriate expenses to his face, and I’m not entirely convinced this isn’t just the draft of a screwball comedy by the Coen brothers.
Reasonably certain this is the first political scandal in B.C. history to include the phrase “Alleged Truckload Of Alcohol”
Somewhat less farcical: in 2012 the clerk received a $257,000 payout for a benefit package that likely didn’t apply to him, and then an HR report examining the matter mysteriously disappeared
You: saying “B.C. politics is wacky!” is about as hackneyed as “those clowns in Congress did it again”

The Speaker’s report:
Here is the clerk’s receipt from the UK Houses of Parliament gift shop in all its glory
oh my god

the clerk expensed $121.80 because his iMac’s mouse stopped working and he wanted help

it was out of power
Some of you have been wondering about the "satirical books about Brexit" expensed by the Clerk on one of his trips to the United Kingdom.

I present to you, "Five on Brexit Island" and its sequel, "Five Escape Brexit Island."

Along with the receipts for each of them.
Here are receipts for $8,789.84 worth of expensed liquor, made in two trips in July 2012, from the Office of the Clerk

(note: the report makes clear that "whether those are connected to the reports of the [alleged truckload of alcohol] allegedly taken by Mr. James is unknown.")
The majority of alcohol expensed to the Clerk's office is from the Quails' Gate winery, which was owned by B.C. Liberal MLA Ben Stewart.

There's also 480 cans and bottles of Kokanee, 96 bottles of Rickards Red, 60 cans of Bud Light Lime, and 36 bottles of Fat Tug IPA.
"The Clerk's Office appears to have shown poor judgement in its expenses, but even worse judgement in its choice of beer options, priotizing Kokanee and even Bud Light Lime at the expense of great local selections."

This isn't a line in the Plecas report.

But it should be.
