I admire the ambitious spirit of the new Sheriff in Town & his eloquent/emotionally intelligent Force PRO. The Devil is in the detail & we must keep correcting these semantics that Nigerians are not looking for the reformation of SARS. We were specific #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG
This charge however does not lie solely in your hands as custodian of the authority of the police in congruence with the orders of the Presidency. It lies in all our hands and those of the legislature to expedite action on the passing of the New Police Act. Reform begins here.
FSARS stopped being a major problem with the stop gap in place under IGP Idris in compliance to the orders of the Acting President in line with the demands of the #EndSARS movement as spurred by the clarion calls of the people. Denigrating that is a Mortal Sin against humanity.
The Chaos unleashed by SARS before the order to overhaul happened while SARS were under the Commissioner of Police across the states and FCT thus necessitating the stop gap that worked pending the kickstart of the Reform Process. But now that’s all gone. We’re back to Square One.
Because of this militant order void of consultation with stake holders, SARS officers in most states have thrown away their uniforms and have resumed oppression, abduction and extortion of the citizenry in less than 24hrs of the said order. This is a tragic development.
When we remove meaningless words, the power of our words goes up. Nigerians are confused by the ambiguity in the pronouncement captured as “Disbandment of FSARS” when indeed it was the stop gap that brought peace that was jettisoned while SARS returned to statusQuo.

That’s what makes them problems. The solution might involve trade-offs or expenses (socio-political costs) that you don’t want to incur. You might also choose not to solve the problem. But there is a solution.

Perhaps you haven’t found it yet. Perhaps you need to do more research or make some tradeoffs in what you’re hoping for. If there is no solution, then it’s not a problem. We all can agree that the Police institution as well as our Criminal Justice System have become a problem.
The question now is if we so desire to solve it or drain our energy in chasing shadows by starting a fire and seeking to put out our own needless fires for activity sake (Isomorphic mimicry). One thing we won’t accept is watching while our youth become targets again.
If you look at the executables in the stop gap documents as shared earlier, there are many line items that is yet to materialize. So it is not only the people that has been failed by the recent order but the SARS operatives as well. This lack of cohesion & continuity is unhealthy
We look forward to working with you to earn the trust of the people provided you will allow the preeminence of emotional intelligence , mindfulness as backed by the understanding of neuroscience to guide the dispensation of your duties. Policing remains a service not a junta.
It is also instructive to realize that Police can not Reform itself. You can’t be a judge in your own case. Integrity will dictate that we stop deploying ambiguous terms that actually connotes another meaning and can not be taken literally. SARS is still in existence.
