I thought it worth a thread suggesting something material might just have changed in Australia's #1 thermal #coal export destination - Japan 🇯🇵. We at IEEFA have written about this quite a bit, but mainly about the growing momentum to exit #coal. ieefa.org/ieefa-japan-ea…
On the other side, @JoshSHill wrote about TEPCO, Japan's biggest thermal power generation firm. They just announced a joint venture MoU with @Orsted for offshore #wind.
Anyone else seeing a Japanese corporate pivot towards #RenewableEnergy internationally?

TEPCO also this week announced it will co-seed CleanGrid Partners' US$60m #solar infrastructure fund for South East Asia, starting with distributed, off grid solar replacing imported diesel applications in Philippines. A smallish step, but a good one. ✔️ straitstimes.com/business/compa…

And @simonjnicholas noted that in the new Reuters report for Japan in CY2018, import volumes for fossil fuels all had a negative sign, reflecting the ongoing shrinking of energy demand:

.@Moshe_Hoffman has a long thread where he lays out his criticisms of evolutionary psychology. He likes evo psych, just as I do. Also like me, he thinks it faces some big hurdles in explaining human behavior.

But we are looking at very different hurdles.

There are two compelling critiques of evolutionary psychology. In my head I call them the "generalist critique" and the "historical critique." Quite a bit more has been written about the first than the second, but mostly by neuroscientists and psychologists speaking w/each other.
The intellectual history of evo psychology is interesting. Many folks assume that it is just sociobiology under another name, but that is not true. Evo psych is a synthesis. Sociobiology is only one half of that synthesis.

The other half?

Modular theories of the mind.

Alright, let's get this party started: First, numbers aren't 100% accurate but anywhere from 170-190 species of #sharks call Australian waters home. That's a lot, seeing as how there are roughly 500-ish species.
According to the Australian Government's Department of Environment and Energy, of those 170-190 species, around 70 are thought to be endemic. Endemic means "native to a specific region or environment and not occurring naturally anywhere else."
