The internet dismantled trust in various phases /1
Search disrupted that nature of authority
Because previously part of authority and expertise was privileged knowledge, earned in school and libraries
Search flattened this - all knowledge was equally accessible
Transparency was forced upon companies because suddenly everyone was watching sharing recording
Many (most?) corporations, & politicians were shown to by hypocrites, through massive trust violations
When many bad things came to light
And there was no consequences for the perpetrators who kept all the money they made
And everyone else paid for it
The platforms normalized all content
Rendering it all the same
Which mean things could look very legit even if they were made yesterday by bad actors
Which reinforced the idea
Nothing is real
Everything is possible
