Karl Marx is talking to all of you class reductionists from the year 1870.

This is precisely why the Rainbow Coalition we’re trying to develop is so crucial.

In case you were wondering, building coalitions along lines of ethnicity in this work is one of our greatest challenges.
It’s one of our greatest challenges not only because we’re Black, but because what we’re trying to do is extremely ambitious, and most people, frankly, aren’t willing/able to put in this kind of work.
Noam Chomsky specifically highlighted the importance of this matter in his endorsement of our organization:

While many continue to treat this aspect of the work as a footnote, we feel it should be front and center.

If you’ve been listening to Venezuelan comrades (ex: @GonzaloAporrea, @veroconplatanos, or @miigueeh18), you know both can be true:

1) Venezuelan comrades want radical change that doesn’t involve Maduro.

2) U.S. interference in Venezuelan affairs should be huge cause for alarm.

There is a certain type of contrarian we can no longer accept in this struggle.

It is the contrarian who opposes popular currents amongst the Left BECAUSE they are popular, and NOT because of any rational position.

This toxic egotism hurts efforts to build class consciousness.
We see this most frequently amongst Leftists who adhere to a false dichotomy of “reform vs. revolution” where any type of reform supported by folks like Bernie or AOC is dismissed as an attempt to reform Capitalism, as opposed to something that could strengthen the working class.
BSA is moving under a “prepare for the worst” philosophy.

We are not banking on policy changes that will boost our cause.

That said, there are clearly representatives in government who wish to aid our anticapitalist efforts, despite their rhetoric not reflecting this to some.

We know @AOC has been speaking with @StephanieKelton and other #MMT folks.

She’s been doing a GREAT job handling the “how are we gonna pay for it?” questions, but here are key points to remember:

• Gold standard ended in 1971.

• We have a fiat currency.

• Money is credit.
Our “tax dollars” don’t actually “pay for” things.

The Federal Reserve actually makes all of the Treasury payments, and it has been this way since 1913.

It gets more complicated than this, but:

1) Treasury has Fed CREDIT bank reserves.

2) Banks credit accounts (DIGITALLY).
The Treasury spends by having the central bank credit bank reserves.

The Treasury receives tax payments by debiting bank reserves.

This is pretty much (systematically) like burning paper notes.

We have special banks now (like dealer banks, for example), but that’s the gist.

Class reductionism is the school of thought that the only meaningful category is economic class. How much money do you make? To challenge people on racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other bigotry divides the unity reductionists seek.
If you tell you're friend they're being racist because they are, and you want them to stop, you're dividing the proletariat, according to reductionists. They'll often point at concrete examples like "how does this help pass M4A? How does this elect Bernie?"

Last night I didn’t have much time to tweet or share my excitement. After needing less than 5 min to get a very good polar alignment with my small telescope I took some few astrophotos... but I’ve forgotten the timelapse cable at home (ahhh!!) & have to take every shot by hand!

It would be interesting to write a counter-factual history of the world if Marx had never existed

Karl Marx was born 3 years before the death of Napoleon.

A year before the birth of Queen Victoria

Bahadur Shah Zafar was just a 43 year old "young" prince

London with a little over 1 million people was the largest city in the world.

A v v long time ago
Marx and his ideas were, in part, a response to the Industrial revolution.

And yes, without Marx even, some form of socialist theory would no doubt have emerged in the course of the 19th century

Karl Marx is 200 and here's a few things that are important to remember about him I always find useful to remember when talking about Marx to geography students (and others) [slight thread].
1) Marx died a stateless person.
2) When Karl and Jenny first moved to London (as political refugees) they lived at 4 Anderson street in Chelsea. They couldn't afford rent and got evicted. Here's Jenny in a letter to Germany from 1850 to Wedemeyer
