So let me get this straight.
A person comes to Australia fear of their life and claims refugee status. Australia does their best to deny the claim because that’s what they do. But there must be merit in the claim because Hakeem al Araibi is given refugee status and Aus residency

Hakeem goes about his life, plays soccer, gets married and decides to go to Thailand for a honeymoon. He is told it’s safe to do so. At the same time Australian Federal Police tell Thailand that he’s on his way and they can arrest him on an Interpol red notice. With me so far?

Thailand arrest him. Interpol withdraws it’s red notice, which should not have been issued for a refugee in the first place. However Thailand keeps him in jail and lets Bahrain file an extradition request. Which they claim they will consider.

Meanwhile the Australian PM and Foreign Minister make some half hearted representations to Thailand, then continue campaigning for an election that hasn’t even been called. Because let’s be clear Australia couldn’t care less about refugees. Nor their own residents. Still with me?

So the campaign to #SaveHakeem has been left to @Craig_Foster to call in favours from the sporting world, to keyboard warriors on social media, to anyone who can make a noise. Because essentially the Australian government failed to protect a refugee.

A refugee to whom they provided a protection visa. A visa designed to protect people. Still with me?

All Australians should hang their heads in shame at the actions of their government and the AFP who once again could be sending a man to their death. Australia of course has form in this area with the Bali 9 executions.

Threaten anything you can.
Because they are threatening one of ours. And we want him back home.
