Action Requires Practice: a thread on how to stand up for people being harassed: I worked at a school w a “bad” reputation. People, including teachers, said horrible things about students. I was out w teachers, we split the bill, it involved doing math, and a teacher said, (1/5)
“Our students could never do this, haha.” 2nd teacher said, “Don’t talk about our students that way. If you’re going to, you can leave.” I admired that teacher SO MUCH for saying what I felt too new/young/scared to say. I rolled it around in my head all the time & the next (2/5)

Last year I was at a conference, a woman talked, a man yelled at her, “Speak up sweetie.” When she was done, 2nd woman asked for the mic. 2nd woman said, “To the man who called her sweetie: that is not ok. We are at work right now & (3/5)
we deserve to be treated professionally.” Again I admired her SO MUCH. Again I thought about it all the time. Last week I was in a big auditorium class, I ended with a Kahoot, & a student made the username the_librarian_is_hot. I deleted the name & I didn’t even think, (4/5)
I just said, “That is not okay. I am at work. Do not harass me.” We have to practice our actions, mentally & in real life, until they’re automatic. Did you see harassment at #alamw2019 & wish you had said something? Action requires practice, so practice: “That is not okay.” (5/5)
