The flaw in this argument by Steve Schmidt is that Schultz isn't articulating a case about the broken electoral system. He appears to be motivated by anger that a Democratic president might raise his taxes to give broke people college and healthcare. rawstory.com/2019/01/nicoll…
Oh and also Donald Trump's bad manners. So... the answer is to definitely not raise his taxes to give regular folks college and healthcare.
The most charitable reading is that Schultz's trial balloon is an attempt to terrify Democratic primary voters into nominating someone who vows NOT to raise his taxes to give broke people college and healthcare.

One of the huge tests for Kamala Harris was whether she could translate all that’s compelling about her on paper, go onto a stage and deliver a retail political speech that’s compelling and resonant. Hard to argue she didn’t do that today.
All of these Democratic candidates are going to have to pass that acid test. And giving a speech is a lot harder than it looks. You have to not just make your points and do the poetry but also move the crowd (including the TV crowd.)
Hillary Clinton, for all her policy depth and deep resume, struggled with that aspect of politics. The current crop of candidates will surely be mindful of that.

A timely reminder that no president of the United States has the power or the right under the constitution to give a speech in the well of the House. That power resides with the Speaker. (Also the SOTU is not required to be a speech. It can be in writing.)
Oh, and either chamber would have to pass a resolution formally authorizing a speech anyway, so even McConnell, as badly as he might want to, can’t give Donald Trump the set he wants for his SOTU telecast. Welcome to the world of “Article 1 as intended.”
This is what it looks like when a Speaker uses the power of the office. We just became accustomed to weak speakers and “unitary executive” presidents, so we’re not used to it.

* DACA population won’t get legal status unless we address some of the causes of a broken immigration system.
To do otherwise would be to encourage more illegal immigration.

President @realDonaldTrump has been more than reasonable.

1) The morning after the 2015 election, Labour looked in more trouble than at any time since the 1930s. It was hemmed in from all sides: the Tories in the south, the SNP in Scotland, UKIP in the midlands and north. Hopelessly squeezed with no way out.
2) In the aftermath, not only the idiot commentariat but many Labour MPs insisted that the only way forward was to accept austerity, accept welfare cuts, and be Tory lite. Ludicrous. Their big idea was to abandon anything Labour stood for at all. It was a suicide wish.

.@Comey I saw your interview live @TownHallNYC with Remnick @NewYorker it was interesting. My question is why did you view the choose to disclose the re-opening of the investigation publicly as a binary choice of either disclose or conceal.
Also interesting is that your desire to protect the FBI is paramount in your life. Even with the knowledge that active agents in the New York office leaked actual classified investigative information to Rudy Giuliani regularly during the 2016 campaign.
One of the main takeaways is that leaders have less control over the behavior of those who work under them. The FBI leadership cares little to hold certain elements of it's Operations to the highest standard of ethics beyond protecting the institution as a whole.
