Oh, now I see why all these fools keep bringing up the magnitude of McGovern's loss. They're thinking of the Nixon, post-Watergate, post-resignation, moment. They have no idea of how wildly popular he was on the eve of his reelection.

Cory Booker's quote here is the worst: "We should not be doing anything to mess with the strength of the filibuster. It’s one of the distinguishing factors of this body. And I think it is good to have the power of the filibuster.”
But frankly neither Warren nor Sanders is that much better (they basically dodge the issue). I just don't see how anyone plans to get any real progress without abolishing the filibuster.

By all means, stick with the "I'm socially liberal, fiscally sadistic" party line. B/c that's worked out so well for everyone over the years.
But as a member of the professional upper middle class, I do wonder about these polls. I don't know anyone in this group that says, "I love my healthcare plan at work so much." Frankly I don't know anyone who even says "I like it." I'm open to the empirical evidence but it's
the kind of thing that I wonder if surface polling can really capture (as the polling that Brownstein digs deeper into also shows, incidentally).

There is a new CNN poll out today with approval at 35, disapproval at 58. That may seem a surprise with polling averages at 43 (HuffPo) and 42 (RCP) or 39.4 (538) or 44 (me, sort of).

It’s not. And it raises an issue.

Let me elaborate. 1/x
We have always known that house effects, due to methodology, sampled population, question wording, weighting etc etc are part of surveys, and these can be taken into account. Likewise with mode effects— the method by which data are gathered. 2/
In polling on Trump, live phone polls (which include cell phones) have consistently given lower approval ratings than have internet based surveys which in turn have been lower than IVR (robo) which now usually include an internet component to compensate for lack of cells. 3/
