A thread on several presentations at @HarvardHBS Fusion conf on Science and Business of Aging. @sacjai (HMS 06!) describes failures of current approaches to care under Medicare, and how @CareMoreHealth which he heads is designing approaches to improve this. Quite impressive.
Richard Hodes (HMS 69!) who directs NIA gives broad and pretty comprehensive review of “geroscience” today and future possibilities.
George Church gives a thrilling Churchian overview of why he thinks aging will eventually be reversed through a variety of cutting edge gene therapy approaches being tested in his mega lab. If anyone can do it, he will! Maybe helpful for my kids?
In response to a question about “supplements”, he says there is no evidence yet, there’s lots of wishful thinking, and says at least Elyssium Health which he advises is doing research, unfortunately(say I) while selling direct to consumers.
Nir Barzilai gives terrific talk, mainly making the case that metformin (now safely used for diabetes) is plausibly an effective anti-aging treatment. The TAME study to test this will start soon, after much discussion with @US_FDA. Would be great if it works!
Conference also notable for who wasn’t on the program. (Grateful).
Len Blavatnik, who has been hugely philanthropic with @Harvard and @harvardmed, was in the audience, and gave brief remarks.
