This report about Amnesty's working culture is damning - particularly for a human rights organisation. That said, I am impressed that they have published it as transparency and acceptance must be the first steps to changing what is clearly a toxic culture amnesty.org/download/Docum…
As anyone who works in the human rights field knows, people who espouse human rights are flawed humans like everyone else, and the same can be said for human rights orgs.

Sometimes a sense of righteousness can blind you to the very thing you think you are fighting
Toxic organisational culture can exist in any organisation, whatever the purpose. And excellent, nurturing organisational culture can exist in any organisation too.

It's about leadership, accountability and transparency
This is quite upsetting. Hopefully Amnesty will use this as a spur for action, but I imagine that will have to involve some pruning of the senior staff who let this happen. Otherwise, how can accountability become part of the culture?
We would all do well to remember Eleanor Roosevelt's words. Human rights don't begin in a foreign country or a great cause - they begin in the small places, close to home.

i.e. in the way you treat your friends and colleagues
The recommendations from page 35 are really interesting and could benefit many organisations and institutions
I'm up for this!
This is very much of a piece with revelations about other international charitable orgs such as Oxfam. Amazingly similar language in this recent report

"prioritized what it aims to achieve over how it is done"
