This is how the numbers add up and what they mean: Labour received 673 complaints of antisemitism involving party members from April 2018 to January 2019 - so about 15 per week. That's a lot of antisemitism for one party. /1
Of those 673 complaints, 366 (54%) led to no action or a 'reminder of conduct' warning with no sanction. Of the remaining 307 cases, 96 (31%) led to some kind of decision or action by NEC or NCC. Of these, 49 people have left the party voluntarily and 12 were expelled. /2
That's a high attrition rate - from 673 cases to 12 expulsions or (let's be charitable) 61 people leaving the party one way or another. Most party members reported for antisemitism get to stay with no real consequences. I've got three more observations... /3
Firstly, Formby says a lot of the 'no action' decisions were due to lack of evidence, but some reported cases involve evidence being ignored so what trust is there that evidence is being assessed properly? thejc.com/news/uk-news/l… /4
Secondly, it appears that some of the 'reminder of conduct' warnings have been used in cases of blatant, neo-Nazi level antisemitism, such as this one involving Kayla Bibby in Liverpool, that are much too serious for a simple written warning thejc.com/news/uk-news/k…
And thirdly - yet again, the Labour Party had to be dragged kicking and screaming to provide even these numbers. Any action against antisemitism over the past three years has only come in response to extreme pressure. It's really not good enough. /End
