One important point to understand about the #GreenNewDeal mindset is that socialists HATE middle-class people having access to cheap energy. They really thought they were going to put a stake in the middle-class heart under Obama, who dreamed of $10/gallon gas.
Cheap energy screws up every assumption of socialism. It makes all goods and services cheaper, which gives the middle class more purchasing power. That's very bad for the authoritarian Left, which wants people dependent on government for their needs.
When vital goods and services are cheap and readily available, people don't think an all-powerful maternal government is necessary. Attacking the American energy industry offers the Left a way to make EVERYTHING more expensive, all at once.
Imagine how much food would cost under a #GreenNewDeal that assaults the internal combustion engine! Once grocery store prices are nice and high, middle-class people will start thinking the poor can't survive without government assistance and even they could use help.
That, incidentally, is why so much of the Looney Tunes socialist resolution introduced by AOC and Markey jabbers about food and agriculture. Hitting the middle class hard in its breadbasket is the best way to bring it to its knees.
Looking beyond food, higher energy prices making EVERYTHING more expensive will sever the middle class from the free market. Jobs and paychecks mean less when you can buy less with your money and must rely on the government to provide for your needs.
As it stands, the American people are reminded of the power of capitalism every time they visit Wal-Mart. The cars they buy are miracles of technology and comfort. Competitive industries produce fantastic new goods at prices so cheap the poor can afford marvels.
But if the Left can use the #GreenNewDeal to make cheap energy a thing of the past, all that stuff gets more expensive. Free-market capitalism stops looking like a cornucopia of blessings every day. Corporate America looks less admirable and more predatory.
Another side effect of the war on cheap energy the Left would find very useful is reduced mobility for the American people. They HATE it when the serfs move around too much.
Highly mobile people can seek out opportunity and move out of Democrat-run hell hole districts. More expensive energy would destroy the mobility that makes rural and suburban living attractive. As you might have noticed, the Left loathes rural and suburban living.
With fuel more expensive and the internal combustion engine phased out, people would feel strong pressures to urbanize, moving to places where mass transit is available and unreliable, inconvenient electric cars with short ranges are less unappealing.
The Left strongly desires urbanization because it derives much of its political strength from urban areas. Herding Americans into cities, and reducing the economic power of those who remain in rural areas, would be a dream come true for them.
The Trump era rattles the Left badly because they thought Obama was making Americans comfortable with a lower standard of living: high unemployment, expensive fuel, hyper-regulation, high taxes, government forcing taxpayers to subsidize green companies.
The energy revolution scuttled those plans. Cheap energy is an important element of the post-Obama economic revival. No wonder the socialist vanguard of the Left wants to declare all-out war on American energy. /end
