Socialism: gunning down starving people as they rush for food their dictator says they don't need because humanitarian aid is an embarrassing reminder of his utter failure.
Before the usual suspects start shrieking that Venezuela is a freakish aberration and "true socialism" has never been tried: no, this IS true socialism. Centralized power can never afford to admit it was comprehensively wrong about anything, not even mass starvation.
The socialist elite might grudgingly conclude some mistakes were made and a different strategy should be considered, but only if THEY remain in power and the new strategy does not dilute their authority. They will never admit socialism itself was wrong.
It doesn't matter how benevolent the socialist pioneers claim to be. Left-wingers across the West hailed first Chavez and then Maduro as enlightened geniuses who worked wonders for Venezuela. Some of them still support Maduro as he shuts down humanitarian aid with gunfire.
Socialists always seize power on behalf of someone else but wield it for themselves. The victims of left-wing policy are already treated as unpersons in America. In the end, they WILL kill you for asking questions if the answer is something other than socialism. /end
