THREAD: This report is from 2017 but I am now coming across it. And as @MattGrossmann points out, the analysis finds no evidence that conservative students pay a grade penalty for the fact that professors are disproportionately liberal. And I am not surprised about that AT ALL bc
of two reasons. First, academic training is rigorous and trains you to be an unbiased investigator. That is quite literally a requirement of the job. So regardless of your personal beliefs, few professors are going to teach in a politically biases way and 2. there are safety nets
in place to protect students from that type of abuse. what i am more interested in is that according to these data, which are collected for and the report is issued by a group dedicated to protecting conservatives on college campuses, we find that the university atmosphere is
actually really, really healthy despite popular misconceptions. For example, only 2% of students think its OK to interrupt a speaker, even a controversial speaker and 93% want their schools to offer a variety of speakers on campus. Nearly 90% report that they feel comfortable
expressing their opinions in the classroom and 65% report that hearing an argument by a guest speaker has led to them changing their mind or attitude on a issue. 35% think hate speech should be protected by the 1st amendment which is actually probably a bit higher than the
general public. And despite all the talk about liberal snowflakes and safe spaces, the vast majority of Democratic students report being comfortable waling past campus protests. more than 30pts more than the 28% of republican students who report the same. d28htnjz2elwuj.cloudfront.net/wp-content/upl…
