@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 1/ OK. Sorry for the delay but here is where this is coming from and why this does NOT mean that we are all idiots (or dont believe in cloud). Lets start. The main rational for why Fiori Cloud was started was that the TCO for setting up Fiori on SAP Business Suite was, ahem, high
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 2/ The idea was - Why dont we (SAP) take away the burden of running the FES from your shoulders and run all that fiori stack on the cloud. This way - you can get up and running with Fiori in weeks instead of months. Sounds good? Yes. We started with a limited set of Fiori apps
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 3/ All of which came from the Business Suite. And then came S/4. The rational was the same - why dont we make your life easier - Just on a massive scale. In fact - just dealing with the scale of loading and managing those thousands of Fiori Apps coming from S/4 took away a big
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 4/ chunk of our development resources (we will return to that later). Customers started buying the product, using it and the tree was happy. And then we started noticing several things. First - Customers (that's you) were not happy about the integration capabilities of FLP.
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 5/ And they were right! the fact that you couldn't use tiles from two different S/4 systems on the same FLP (or two different UI5 versions) was less than stellar. FLP (well, actually the portal) should be your UI integration hub and if it can't integrate, well, its a lonely hub.
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 6/ Second thing we noticed is that the vast majority of what people do with Fiori Cloud is actually build and run *custom* fiori apps which they build. One last data point - Setting up and running Fiori apps on S/4 On Prem got a whole lot better since the merry old days of BS.
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 7/ So - With that in mind we figured we divert our resources to the following - Double down on the integration capabilities, Keep the custom dev capabilities and drop the OOTB thousands of Fiori apps delivered through the cloud starting from 1809, we of course still support 1709
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 8/ Now - If you think about it - From day 1 Fiori cloud was a hybrid solution. It was never all cloud since it assumed on on prem S/4 (or BS). That has not changed. What we did was move the "line" where On Prem stops and where Cloud begins. We still believe very much in cloud
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 9/ And in Fiori Cloud (and the underlying SAP Cloud Platform). But - we need to invest where the customers pain points are. And those are not with getting all 7K S/4 Fiori apps OOTB. With the upcoming central FLP - you should be able to consume those in a "federated" manner.
@wombling @alisdair73 @js1972 @jhmoy 10/ To conclude (whew!) - I hope this provides some insight into our thought process. You know how to reach us - either @AviadRivlin or myself - twitter, slack, whatsapp. Would be happy to sit with each one and discuss. #Fiori #sapcp #portal
