According to this new SI, US companies will have to update their privacy policies after a no-deal Brexit before it's legal for UK companies to transfer data to them (currently legal to transfer data to those participating in the EU Privacy Shield program.)

The Explanatory Memorandum claims "The only cost that UK business will incur is a small amount of additional procedure to check that their US counterpart has updated their privacy policy to include the UK under their Privacy Shield commitments."
Of course, as you've probably already spotted, that's absurd. Because the cost is potentially massive if they haven't. You'll either have to then persuade a company on the other side of the Atlantic to change its policy, or shop around for a different provider, move data etc.
But hey, it's being moved under the "negative sifting procedure" which means it goes through on the nod, with essentially near zero scrutiny by Parliament. So that's ok, then...
