On January 3, 2019, INEC tweeted this:
The Commission set up 2 committees SPECIFICALLY to handle important aspects of the 2019 elections.
In a press release posted on its official news site on the same day, @inecnigeria provides the names of heads and members of the committee as well as their responsibilities: inecnews.com/2019-inec-inau…
Members of the Electoral Logistics ad hoc committee include: National Commissioner, retired AirViceMarshal (AVM)Ahmed Tijjani Mu’azu (CHAIRMAN),National Commissioner, Engr. Abubakar Nahuche, National Commissioner Malam Mohammed Haruna, CBN, Customs, FAAN, FRSC and Immigration.
The responsibilities of the Ad-hoc committee for logistics are rather specific:
The committee is even constituted IN COMPLIANCE WITH the Electoral Act:
Neither of the two committees feature Prof. Okey Ibeanu. But he was conveniently singled out by APC supporters on twitter as a scapegoat for the postponement of the Feb 16 Elections
There were more than 15,000 coordinated tweets hatefully targeting Professor Ibeanu, his reputation and his ethnicity using the hashtag #INECIbeanuMustGo. Subsequently, his home was burgled yesterday and his tablet and laptop were 'stolen'. cc @Twitter
He has now been invited for questioning by the DSS today. May people will make a direct connection between the attacks on Prof. Ibeanu's person, reputation and property and his invitation by the DSS. #NigeriaBeforeAnybody
Nobody has singled out AVM Mu'azu, chairman of the committee responsible for the cock-up for attacks. Rightfully so, because despite the disappointment of the postponed elections, it is important to support @inecnigeria to conduct these important elections without interference
It is also important that incendiary and divisive campaigns deployed on the eve of this hotly contested elections in a country as volatile as Nigeria be met with immediate and effective counter narratives.
At the end, no matter who wins the election, we still need a peaceful country to live in and Nigeria must come before all of us. #NigeriaBeforeAnybody
