This detention memo @SeamusHughes uncovered is truly unsettling. The prosecutors call the defendant a domestic terrorist. They lay out his nazi writings, his accumulation of weapons, and his excel target list full of cable news figures and politicians. assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5745…

The defendant is a Coast Guard lieutenant, assigned to headquarters in Washington, DC.
We shouldn't forget this is going to be a genuinely awful day for the people named in Hasson's target list and their loved ones. I'm sorry they have to go through it, and glad law enforcement got ahead of this.
For completeness, here's the complaint against Hasson. It's supporting weapons and drug charges, not the terrorism allegations unveiled in the detention memo. But it shows some of the investigation's scope--including video surveillance at Coast Guard HQ. documentcloud.org/documents/5745…
Our knowing about the Hasson case is wholly contingent on @SeamusHughes and his @gwupoe team finding the docket as part of their review of PACER. There was no DOJ, US Atty, or Coast Guard press release (curiously), and no reporter caught wind of it from an independent source.
Of note in the complaint, prosecutors found that Hasson made purchases at the NRA shooting range at the lobbying group’s headquarters outside DC; its website says it offers “an exceptional stock of ammunition and shooting supplies.” nrahqrange.nra.org
Still no public comment (afaik) from the White House, DOJ, FBI, Coast Guard, or NCTC about the Hasson counterterrorism case, even as DOJ trumpets seemingly less significant law enforcement actions.
Both NYT and WaPo have relegated the Hasson case to the 'other news' sections of their home pages, while the arrest of tv actor Jussie Smollett for filing a false police report of a hate crime remains above the digital fold.
