THREAD: With Vermont's push to allow abortion on demand until birth in the news, I want to point out the intentional framing abortion apologists are trying to insert into the narrative--"third-trimester abortions." The entire "late-term abortion" isn't a medical term fits 1/
2/ this narrative. As does "third-trimester abortions are very rare," and "third trimester abortion are only done in case of life of mother or severe fetal anomaly." Rare is relative, though, to the huge number of abortions in US. The other two claims are false. BUT this
3/ use of "third-trimester" abortions is intentional to pull attention away from the fact that second-trimester abortions kill viable fetuses! The third trimester begins at 29 weeks. At 28 weeks almost all fetuses are viable and viability is now down to 22 weeks! Don't let
4/4 abortion apologists get away with the misdirection! While Americans are split on abortion, an overwhelming majority oppose abortion AFTER viability. That's second-trimester & that point needs to be hammered!! END
Post script: Here is a classic example of misdirection by reframing the debate as one over "third trimester."
