Hey @TheAtlantic before publishing this “good White Christian couple wanted to save poor Indian child and the bad Native rights law won’t let them” article, did you pause and think maybe this is racist?

I guess the fact checkers were on vacation. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ICWA has been challenged on these ground hundreds of times. And each time it’s been thrown out bc the law and precedent are clear. This isn’t uncharted legal territory.
When the law was passed in 1978 1/3 of all Native children had been adopted out of their tribes. The law wasn’t in response to ”200 yrs of history”, it was in response to a very real, present and harmful crisis.
We know that if ICWA is overturned, we will return to these devastating statistics.

With ICWA in place, Natives Americans are only 1.4 percent of the population in Minnesota, but Native kids represent 23.9 percent of the kids in the state foster care system.
I turn to the @TheAtlantic for thoughtful, in-depth and progressive coverage of today’s pressing issues.

But this article reads like a post from the @GoldwaterInst website; like the anti-Indian propaganda the far right been spewing for yrs.

.@TheAtlantic, you should hire a Native writer to cover the legal facts and human stories of ICWA to balance this skewed piece.
