We at Intercom are incredibly lucky to interview some of the brightest designers in the industry. We’ve noticed a few things that make a really good portfolio presentation.

Thread 👇
1/ First of all there are the basics. In some way or another you want to show that:
✅ you have an experience designing real products
✅ you are well versed in all stages of product design
✅ you collaborate with PM, engineers, research etc.
✅ you have a good attitude
2/ This is non-exhaustive list, but hopefully you get the idea.
3/ But checking the boxes is not enough, you also want to do in a fun and engaging way. This is why the structure of your presentation is also important.
4/ Structure of a great portfolio presentation is very similar to that of a great movie, play or a book. There are five parts: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and dénouement. You can read more about it here — en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dramatic_…
5/ Here’s how it can apply to portfolio presentation.
6/ Bear in mind that the parts don’t have to be ordered this way only. You can start with climax and then follow with everything else. In fact, you can be as post-modern with your structure as you’d like. Changing the order of addends does not change the sum. 🤠
7/ We are currently hiring for a bunch of product design roles and we can’t wait to see you presentation — intercom.com/careers.
