The GDPR bashing continues in the hearing as witnesses correlate 7 months of its effects as definitive evidence. All of sudden there are tech monopolies and it’s all the EU’s fault! No kidding. This panel is grotesque. #FederalPrivacyBill
Really looking forward to IAB’s mouthpiece up next to bash GDPR and exclaim the virtues of self-regulation crapware like AdChoices and ignore how Cambridge Analytica sits dead on IAB’s doorstep. #FederalPrivacyBill
IAB’s Grimaldi won’t mention how news business is abandoning digital advertising wholesale for rev. Won’t mention research that shows plurality say targeted ads are unethical and the more consumers learn about how behavioral ads work, the more they hate it. #FederalPrivacyBill
.@CenDemTech’s witness espouses virtues of their proposed bill which sits somewhere between GDPR and CCPA which they helpfully compare here: cdt.org/insight/compar… because the devil is in the details. #FederalPrivacyBill
Is any committee member going to ask panel about Cambridge Analytica and the ICO’s CRIMINAL enforcements against them for breaching data rights and breaking data law as a salient topic to this hearing? #FederalPrivacyBill
Rep Fred Upton from Michigan was lavishing praise on IAB’s Grimaldi’s talking points. Here are Upton’s campaign donors. A veritable who’s who of industries poised to benefit from a weak, loophole ridden national privacy law. #FederalPrivacyBill followthemoney.org/entity-details…
IAB’s Grimaldi claims self-regulation prevents harmful uses. IAB offers a spec that enables targeting victims of incest and other deeply invasive classifiers. news.sky.com/story/male-imp…
So when IAB says there should be new definitions of harmful and non-harmful practices, this is what they have in mind. Targeting you for sexual abuse and dysfunction is on the menu. #FederalPrivacyBill news.sky.com/story/male-imp…
Rep Pallone asks IAB’s Grimaldi about how collection/sharing limits would impact adtech. He touts AdChoices broken-by-design self-regulatory crapware. Research contradicts his claim that consumers want targeted ads. Most do not. Sorry, Dave. #FederalPrivacyBill
Dr Layton is spewing a lot of anti-GDPR disinfo on this panel. It’s appalling. She’s now claiming GDPR is causing WHOIS records to be obscured. I call BULLSHIT. Domain Registrars sold “privacy” listings way before GDPR. #FederalPrivacyBill
IAB’s Grimaldi is spewing disinfo about data requests and how to authenticate users, a process in place for decades in Europe. I provided drivers license and utility bill to authenticate my identity to SCL Elections Ltd on behalf of Cambridge Analytica. #FederalPrivacyBill
Simple fix for #FederalPrivacyBill that won’t be proposed is prohibiting targeting individual identifiers for ads, instead relying on the context of ad placement to address an aggregate audience to preserve its “relevance” while protecting personal data from incentives to collect
IAB would say the sky will fall because adtech would die and be reborn reformed but respected publishers earn single digit revenues from online behavioral advertising so the idea that surveillance marketing funds content is itself disinformation. #FederalPrivacyBill
A restriction like limiting ads to placement context not individual identifiers would also have the side effect of killing off the dark ad fraud market which funnels billions per year from advertisers and publishers into pockets of criminals and fraudsters. #FederalPrivacyBill
CCPA’s household data access requirement gives heartburn to IAB members who must authenticate. But they use cross-device and GPS tracking to establish households. Here’s a sample Subject Access Request under GDPR where I supplied my device ID to authenticate. #FederalPrivacyBill
Can’t get AEI’s witness at House Commerce #FederalPrivacyBill hearing out of my head. energycommerce.house.gov/committee-acti…

Dr Layton has the disinfo skills to shill. She claimed EU adtech companies were exiting biz because of GDPR. Her testimony footnotes this article adexchanger.com/data-exchanges…
Good thing I tuned into House Commerce Committee hearing on #FederalPrivacyBill this morning because tomorrow’s Senate Commerce Committee hearing is up against C O H E N in Oversight Commitee. commerce.senate.gov/public/index.c…
