My hunch is the DPRK-favored sequencing on Yongbyon-sanctions relief proved intractable; let’s see what POTUS has to say.

— can is kicked; working-group process continues;
— can is kicked; 3rd summit to take place
— total US-DPRK process collapse; inter-Korean process sticks
— total US-DPRK process collapse; inter-Korean process collapse
In his New Years’ Day speech, Kim warned of a “new way” if things didn’t work out with the United States, too. 3rd and 4th outcomes above make finding out what exactly that is likelier.
Sarah Sanders statement on today’s #HanoiSummit: Trump and Kim had “very good and constructive meetings”; “no agreement was reached at this time, but their respective teams look forward to meeting in the future.”
That sounds an awful lot like outcome #1 that I outlined here, which is the least-bad no-deal scenario, but still not good.
Also, keep in mind that whatever Sarah Sanders says about the process does not have to be a perception shared in North Korea. Kim may have left irate, for all we know. He may have no intention of continuing this. #HanoiSummit
