Chris Grayling’s Probation Service legacy, according to the NAO report:

➡️ Ignored warnings and “rushed” “ineffective” and “inappropriate” privatisation creating “significant risks”

➡️ £500m wasted

➡️ Number of recalled prisoners “skyrocketed”

➡️ MoJ “set itself up to fail”
That Theresa May sees fit to keep Chris Grayling in office is a matter of enduring national shame; a towering victory for patronage over public interest, and a contemptuous disregard for any notion of ministerial accountability.
We rightly laugh at Trump staffing the White House with his idiot children, but our Prime Minister’s nepotism is no better. Chris Grayling is her long-time chum, so no matter how unfit for office, how much damage he causes and how many lives his policies ruin, he is bulletproof.

This is becoming too frequent and too serious to laugh off as typical government IT cock-ups.

The criminal courts are being stopped from functioning.

Why is every aspect of IT in the criminal justice system - from the CPS case management system to the Crown Court Digital Case System to probation’s IT to the court WiFi to CJSM secure email - so unreliable and prone to failing? Who is responsible? Who is bearing the cost?
Video link technology is its own sour joke, but should also form part of the remit. Why are so many court hearings frustrated by the tech breaking down?

Something I struggle with is why “public protection” politicians would want somebody they consider a radicalised danger to remain at liberty abroad, rather than have them under close watch in the custody of our justice system.
I’m far from a leading authority, but from my studies I don’t recall “Out of sight, out of mind” being a particularly successful strategy against international terrorist movements.
I’m also not sure why, if the reports about dual Bangladeshi nationality are true, we get to dump our problems on other states arguably far less well equipped to deal with them. If Britain raises monsters, Britain should jolly well sit them down and sort them out.

The audit is written in an interesting way. My best analogy would be a report saying: "The allegation that he was hit with a sledge hammer was unsubstantiated." Then, as you read down, you learn that it was really a claw hammer. 3/

1/ This was a terrible idea and seemingly every academic and practitioner in probation thought so. The marketisation was meant to use a "Payment by Results" system similar to another of Grayling's Greatest Hits, The Work Programme...
2/ CRC owners would be paid under on the basis of reductions in reconviction (which ≠ reoffending, but anyway...). They started 2 pilots for this 'payment by results' approach (notably at Doncaster prison) but they had poor results and weren't really finished before TR began

 Many news sites refer to Badwan as either a protestor or a demonstrator who was shot and killed by the #IDF. The photo on the left, from the DailyMail, states Badwan is a protestor. The photo on the right from CGTN states Badwan is a protestor as well.

 The problem is Badwan wasn’t there to protest in the way most people think. This video was taken Friday afternoon at the Karni crossing where Palestinians were clashing w/ #IDF soldiers. At the end, you can see Badwan being evacuated after getting shot by the #IDF.
