Chris Grayling brought to the House of Commons to explain his role in the no-deal Brexit ferry fiasco, says that "we have been acting in the national interest in all eventualities."
Chris Grayling asked if he is personally responsible for the £33 million paid out by the government to Eurotunnel, replies that it was "a collective decision."
Chris Grayling asked if he will say sorry for wasting £33 million of taxpayers' money, replies that "I very much regret that we were taken to court."
Grayling denies he contradicted the official advice on the legal risk of the ferry contract: "We did not receive legal advice saying 'do not do this', we received legal advice saying 'this is a risk.'"
"I stand by the decisions we took," says Chris Grayling.
Grayling again denies any mistake: "Sensible governments take risks in the national interest. I and we and all of my colleagues who took this decision collectively stand by this. We are deeply sorry that it did not work out in the way we intended.. but it was the right decision."
The responsibility for this mess goes all the way to t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶p̶ "I, and we, and all of my colleagues who took this decision collectively."
