The only interesting thing about D'Souza nowadays is that he serves as a measure of grifterization of conservative thought. He has had all the benefits of an elite education and access to privileged institutions, and used those advantages to serve only himself.
There is something sad about simultaneously sneering at college professors, while so desperately wanting the credibility that comes from academia. D'Souza is quick to put others down by bringing up his credentials, which is the calling card of an insecure snob.
This is a guy who describes himself as a Stanford University scholar. He held no faulty position. He was named a fellow at a conservative think-thank even tho he lived in San Diego. In the end, he was was deemed too ideological even for the Hoover Institution. 
After his Hoover gig failed, he was made president of the type of college he now mocks. Faculty objected, but the board hope he would raise money for the financially struggling college. Instead, he focused his energy on promoting himself and his projects. weeklystandard.com/alice-b-lloyd/…
Just two years on, he was forced out of his evangelical college, after it became known that he was having an affair with a much younger married woman. Basically, other people just really, really don't want to work with this guy.
This was before the felony conviction for campaign finance violations, in which he involved his mistress and her husband(!). His ex-wife accused hum of physical abuse and called him the "master of lies." weeklystandard.com/tws-podcast/th…
Lots of other people, esp @KevinMKruse have documented that D'Souza is not a serious historian. And yet college Republicans, @yaf, CPAC and others keep giving him a platform. In doing so they are endorsing his bankrupt approach to conservatism.
