THREAD: One year ago, Rachael Denhollander published a 7,800-word rebuttal to Sovereign Grace Churches that is still reverberating today.
This was in response to months of interviews where Rachael explained her ongoing concerns with the culture of abuse and enabling within evangelical Christianity, citing Sovereign Grace Ministries (now Sovereign Grace Churches) as one of the worst offenders.
Christians were lauding Rachael for extending forgiveness to her abuser in open court in January 2018, as the last of hundreds of survivors to read victim impact statements.
The sheer number of survivors from that case demonstrated what happens when people and institutions look the other way and enable abuse. Yet in interviews afterward, Rachael shared another pain...
The pain of losing her church and Christian fellowship after making a stand for Sovereign Grace victims was deep. Rachael explained “the bright line test” for Christians is how we respond “when it’s in our own community.”
For that initial interview, go here: christianitytoday.com/ct/2018/januar…
Sovereign Grace Churches made a public statement to Rachael’s interview, denying any wrongdoing. Rachael’s response was groundbreaking—a significant moment in history for the long and heartbreaking saga of Sovereign Grace.
For her continued efforts and longtime support for victims, we wished to observe this day in history by thanking .@R_Denhollander for her courageous work and steadfast commitment to the truth.
