Perhaps the parental anxiety is generational. We grew up with a media that was safe and regulated by the FCC. Parents are defenseless in the age of YouTube, at the mercy of tech titans reactive to bad PR. The moral panic is real even if the reasons to be aren’t always real.

35 years ago parents were worried about illicit lyrics in music. (Tipper Gore vs Frank Zappa). Today, parents are worried about self-harm propagandists, pædos, nazis, flatearthers microtargeting our kids. Public pressure and debate is part of the process.
