"That state whose laws are most numerous
is most corrupt" ~Roman Historian 70ce

If we are governed by principles, then we don't need the deadly legalism that allows for all sorts of mischief...someone can always find a way around laws, as we know too well.
The reason the American constitution does not run into 100's of pages as many other countries have chosen to do, is exactly on this point.
You have a few core principles well stated, and then demand that everything else is congruent w those principles.
When you have to stipulate in your "vision/mission" statement all the "lines", you have a system not of consent & commitment to the commonweal but one of treacherous people looking for a way to "win" by circumventing the rules.
Sometimes this is a serious blow to the system.
Every system has an Achellies Heel. (by defintion of a system-you cannot account for every-single-thing). Our constitutional system has a few that are being surfaced. Among them is the breakdown that occurs when the pillar principle of 'separate but equal' branches of gov...
...designed to distribute power is broken, and the other branch functions of the government (Judicial & Congressional/Legislative in this case) suborn themselves, rather than function as a check on power.
There is no way to recover from this situation if it is allowed to persist.
This is, IMO, the precipice we are having to pull back from. The battle is enjoined...Our ability to sustain Constitutional government depends a great deal on what happens next.

This is not a partisan point. A systems one. I posit we need a #systemic understanding/review...
... rather than a partisan one if we are, in the great words of Lincoln, to have this form of government, based on these core principles, battered as they are, long endure on the earth.
By way of example, Ripped from the Headlines
