I am so sick of the notion that in a disorderly no-deal Brexit, problems will be down to EU “bullying”, revenge or sanctions. They are what happens in a COMPLETE LEGAL VOID. How bloody difficult is it to understand that in order to trade the parties need an agreed framework? FFS
It’s like walking into a Tesco in Woking and trying to pay for half a chicken with some Japanese Yen, a bag of apples and two buttons and complaining that they’re bullying you when they don’t agree to your terms.
This precise childish misconception is also at the root of the inane “they need us more than we need them”. 27 nations losing a big partner is NOT FUCKING COMPARABLE to one nation losing 27 partners AND the entire legal framework and infrastructure under which it does all trade.
How thick do you have to be to not get that? And how cynical do you have to be to push it in order to get to power?
In order for that to work you have to show good faith. Going into talks with the central plank “unless you give us what we want we will leave in a way that inflicts you maximum damage, even if we suffer most of it” is an astonishingly hostile act.
