Hey folks, happy #InternationalWomensDay !!

Quick thread. Today is a great day to take a look at who you're actually following here on Twitter. If you're a straight cis guy like me, chances are you're mostly following other men. Try taking the time to actually run the numbers!
If going through all your follows manually is too much of a chore (took me about half an hour), you might try using this automated tool a friend suggested. Permissions look OK and it seems reasonably close to the results I found: proporti.onl
Today I found that I'm probably following about 197 men, 110 women, and 6 nonbinary folks. That's honestly pretty disappointing. I'm not proud of that result. But now that I know, I can push myself to do better.
I've done this kind of scan of all the accounts I followed before, a few years back, and that may have helped get me started but clearly I have a lot more work to do.

It can be easy to think of yourself as super progressive and still drop the ball when it comes to real numbers.
But good news: there's a lot of great hashtags you & I can use to get more diversity in who we follow. The #InternationalWomensDay has been great today. A little while back saw the awesome #VisibleWomen hashtag. You can also check out the rad weekly #ArtShare tag
Just to wrap up, I wanted to suggest this idea because it's helped me in my journey. If you're like me, chances are we can do better. Let's fight back against the biases we've been handed down. Let's take today to add more women's voices to our lives.
