Sources confirm to Vox that international offices are going to be shuttered over the next year. Hundreds of staff likely affected — including many foreign nationals working for USCIS abroad.
It's still unclear how Trump admin is going to reallocate the work that overseas offices did: including naturalizations for active-duty military and spouses serving abroad; humanitarian parole for urgent cases of ppl who can't otherwise get visas; and helping with intl adoptions.
The concern shared to Vox by current staff is a lack of institutional knowledge. International offices helped with, for example, refugee admissions, back when there were a lot of those. Shuttering offices can't easily be undone.
