Across the world, the same patterns of gentle density...
....beauty....
... enclosure ...
... mixed use ....
... a mix of the respectful new ..
... and the old ...
... walkability ....
... variety in a pattern ....
... clever use of water (when you have it)...
...the beautiful enclosure of green spaces ....
... colour ...
... of streets ...
...and curves ...
... of squares ...
... and street trees ...
... make (with varieties for climate & culture) ...
... for places where people walk & cycle more ...
... know more of their neighbours (which is provably good for you)....
.. tend to be happier ...
.. use these less (good for the planet)...
... don’t end up leading atomised & socially segregated lives in one of these (to say nothing of the service charges)...
... and generally lead better connected lives with higher levels of place and life satisfaction.
Oh and for a given density they tend to be worth more too. Everyone wins.
If you’d like to read more you can access a lot of the research (including our own) on associations between urban form & design with wellbeing & value outcomes on our research page dev.createstreets.com/front-page-2/r… but also see brilliant work by @thehappycity @StrongTowns @thoughtsymmetry
