Great work by Mark Moloney exposing tiny emerging far-right party has tried to trick people and tricked media with Kilarney Advertiser & Kilarney Today reporting on fake 'stock image Mairead' candidate.

Arguably it has also worked in national media with journalists media including Newstalk fooled into covering this irrelevancy that could only pull 17 people to a heavily advertised public meeting in Letterkenny. 
Media is now scrubbing those stories off its social media as if they were never fooled and it turns out that 'Mairead' was not the only fake person on the Irexit web site, the number of volunteers they were publicising halved - in fact both the women turned out to be fake.
Typical of methodology of far right, something Irish journalists have now fallen for several times over. They try and create a sense they are popular through running multiple fake social media accounts in order to get mainstream media to discuss their 'popularity'
Thus reach an audience of 100s of 1000s where perhaps 0.1% will agree with them. That is the point, disproving their nonsense on air to 99.9% of your audience is something they simply laugh at because it's the 0.1% who are susceptible to message of hate you are helping them reach
This time last year we saw multiple fake stories manufactured by the far right as part of their campaign against #repealedThe8th - we played whack-a-mole exposing such stories throughout referendum. Far right have now moved on to racism as main organising focus
Lessons for media is never cover them without 1st fact checking every single claim and never allow live broadcast unless you have resources for real time fact claiming & challenges by someone who has done a LOT of research. Otherwise you amplify their hate to their 0.1%
This applies to podcasters as much as mainstream media, don't imagine being smarter than them is enough, they aren't trying to convince all your audience, just reach gullible 0.1% of them. They can make a dangerous movement with only 100 people never mind 4,700 & you can help
It only took one Brevik to murder 77 people in Norway, many of them children, and we have seen multiple fascist murders in the US and Europe over the last year where people and individuals and small groups have fallen for racist messaging.
You can see people calling for vigilante gangs to murder black teens in comments under racist scare stories put out by the likes of The Liberal. Amplifying the message will help that happen even if it's not what those putting out the fake news intend - we have already 3 arsons
