Remainers beware.
'Malthouse B' is a way for Brexiters to push through no-deal Brexit and be able to blame the EU.
Malthouse B 'solves' the NI border problem by using 'technology' to avoid a hard border.
But this technology DOES NOT EXIST and has already been rejected by the EU.
Malthouse B also needs the EU to reopen backstop negotiations. This already rejected by the EU COUNTLESS TIMES.
The people suggesting Malthouse B are knowingly suggesting something impossible that they know will be rejected by the EU.
So they can blame a no-deal Brexit on the EU.
By the time the plan is presented to EU and rejected (again) will be too late for extension of article 50. We'll crash out with no plan.
But press/Brexiters will be able to blame the EU for rejecting their 'compromise'.
And the catastrophe effects of no deal will be blamed on EU
Don't let them get away with this trick.

OK. So there's something quite interesting here.
Is it really possible that @TheSun and @DailyMailUK journalist @thequentinletts doesn't know that Switzerland is in the Schengen zone with the EU?
The answer is no. He's not that stupid. He's really not. So why did he tweet this?
Look at the number of likes and retweets he's getting, from Brexiters who - unlike him - do not realise that Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area.
He's deliberately stating something on social media that he knows to be untrue. In order to knowingly spread lies.
Why would a journalist deliberately spread untruths? Why would a journalist risk his professional reputation to state an untruth that can so easily be called out?
Answer: because he knows he will NOT be called out on his lies.

Dear every hard Brexiter who wants a hard Brexit with WTO rules,
I'll write slowly so you can follow this.
1. If we go to WTO rules we will need to apply tariffs to our exports and imports.
2. If we apply tariffs, then British manufacturers exporting will be more expensive.
3. If our exports are more expensive, fewer people will buy them and jobs will be lost and the economy will tank.
4. If we decide NOT to apply tariffs, then WTO rules say that foreign importers can flood us with cheap tariff-free goods.
5. If our country is flooded with cheap tariff-free goods, then our domestic producers will not be able to compete, they will go bankrupt, jobs will be lost and the economy will tank.

Politicians are too afraid to speak out against the EU referendum result because they’re scared they’ll be accused of undermining democracy ...

and sensible journalists are also mostly too afraid to speak out, lest they’re accused of being in a middle-class, out-of-touch establishment bubble – which of course most of them are.
But I’m not a politician or a journalist. So here’s the truth.
The Brexit referendum result was NOT democratic.
The Brexit campaign was riddled with lies, dodgy 'dark' money and manipulation.
The so-called ‘facts’ used by the Leave campaign were laughably ridiculous fabrications.

Theresa May's machiavelic plans have to stop.

If she really believes her negotiations are that Strong and Stable, she should stop this embarrassing political circus and openly go for her No-Deal #Brexit plan, instead of sneakily engineering it.

It was even said yesterday before she decided to support it.

✔ No hard border (#GoodFridayAgreement)
❌ No customs unions
❌ No single market
❌ No freedom of movement
The EU wanted a soft #Brexit. So no Backstop. 3/10

A thread on the aftermath of the Brussels Summit, and the state of UK politics. Today, I have been trying to teach the latest Brexit developments to groups of students @BristolUniLaw. It has helped me to get some perspective. 1/
Teaching tends to help me a lot. In order to be able to explain things, you have to understand them. Where there are gaps are inconsistencies in reasoning, they tend to get exposed. 2/
To Brexit then. The key for TM for now, is to reach agreement with the EU on the Irish backstop (the other parts of the WA are more or less agreed); and to get that agreement through Parliament. Then Brexit will be done. 3/

1. The ERG have proven adept at making noise but they don't seem to be able to grasp policy. They get shot down every time they put their heads above the parapet and they have not been able to produce a credible alternative to chequers. #Brexit thread...
2. With philandering Johnson having blown his window of opportunity and the ERG seemingly backing down it looks like May will survive until Brexit day. That, though, does not change the fact that Chequers is a non-starter.
3. So given that member states are not prepared for a no deal Brexit any more than we are the Eu will want to buy time so will agree to a much more vague political statement on trade just to get the withdrawal agreement in the bag. That will still require an NI backstop.

First, the problem, real quick.

EU needs 'backstop' that works in all eventualities, including a breakdown in future relationship talks at the end of transition.

With no border in Ireland, there "must" logically be checks between NI and GB to protect single market. /2
The problem is that puts a *customs* border in the Irish Sea, and the UK government cannot live with that, since it splits up UK.

Theresa May was very hard over on this point in her speech in Belfast. Barnier's Task Force 50 blanched last week when they saw how hard over. /3

1. Central to the crunch in #Brexit talks is that the ultras think the EU is over-egging the NI border situation and have unjustly rejected their ideas because of a political agenda to annex NI for Ireland. Which is bollocks...
2. It's really quite simple. The EU has controls on its outer frontiers because it has a system of rules to keep certain things out be they counterfeit airline spares of adulterated foods. It's a system, it's *their* system, and the want to keep it intact.
3. The UK has decided that it does not want to be inside of this system. If we didn't share a land border with the EU then that wouldn't be much of a problem. But we do. And it's a big problem...

Another boring #Brexit thread.

1. People are right to observe that the EU does flex its own rules but very often when it does it is invoking emergency measures or articles inside a particular legal framework. That, though, cannot extend to #Brexit.
2. When the UK leaves it will become a third country. Standard third country treatment will apply. That new relationship could evolve to include further customs cooperation but it would have to be part of a formal agreement.
3. What the EU is not going to do is enter any agreement that compromises its own legal order. Any agreement allowing the free(ish) movement of goods would mean that any UK regulatory divergence would have to be supervised and mutually agreed.
