Trump said he "didn't want to take any chances," and that although he didn't "have to" ground the planes, it was important "psychologically" as well as other reasons. "We acted, also, very fact-based," he said.
Asked if Canada's grounding was a factor, Trump said, "We're doing it almost as a simultaneous - we were coordinating with Canada. We were coordinating with Canada. We were giving them information, they were giving us information. We very much worked in conjunction with Canada."
Canada's transport minister, Marc Garneau, said earlier that the Canadian government had been in close contact with the US FAA on the issue.
