MPs like Esther McVey are saying "Yes, I know Theresa May's Brexit deal is a *bad* deal. But I plan to vote for it anyway, because it's all that's left on the table." To vote for something you *know* is bad just because you can't get what you dreamt of is stark staring bonkers.
Added loopy points for those that go on to add "my preferred choice was no-deal, but now that's gone..." or "no-deal was our manifesto commitment because 'no deal is better than a bad deal' and TM's deal is a bad deal."
But they're not even the worst. The worst are those that say "Ok, I'll vote for your deal if TM resigns afterwards." Because that's not about Brexit at all. That's pure, naked ambition. The vote could be about anything - it's the prize of Theresa May's resignation that's key.
Whatever happened to the idea (enshrined in the MP Code of Conduct) that MPs are supposed to be making decisions in the national interest and in the interest of their constituents? (NOT the same as "doing whatever their constitutents want"!)

Whatever happened to the notion (again, in the same Code of Conduct) that they are supposed to make decisions based on merit?

Brexit happened, that's what. And once Brexit enters the picture, all niceties go out of the window.
