You need to listen to this. It's sobering, urgent, a complete gut punch of an episode. And there's a running thread that really got to me, about holding onto your humanity in a time of dehumanization.
Thank you @AndreaChalupa for these words.
We're immersed in all these forces- authoritarian propaganda, normalization, social media, partisan and intra-partisan fights- that make us more numb, less compassionate, less concerned with the humanity of the people around us.
All these things are trying to rob us of our ability to stay human. And we need to stay human if we’re really going to fight for ourselves, our children, our country, and everyone being abused by this regime. This episode grounded everything in that idea. (Viscerally.)
Manafort's crimes have a body count. Trump's propaganda has a body count. This administration kidnaps children. And we’ve got judges, reporters and politicians telling us not to care. Normalization tells us not to care. Staying human takes conscious effort.
@sarahkendzior: “Your weapon throughout all of this is your conscience.”
There's so much more in this episode. They bring their expertise and their humanity together in a way you just don't hear that often.
