Oldest known mariner's astrolabe. From the very end of the 1400s.

(Note that this is specifically the astrolabe. Other methods were used long before by many cultures)

For example, the sidereal compass and pelorus, first pioneered by the polynesians. It's important to remember the polynesians as colonialism destroyed a huge amount of cultural knowledge and the research following that has been severely tainted by colonial bias.
