Got some stupid comments after my retweet of a thread about romance authors that paranormal romance isn't "real" in some way or another (it wasn't particularly coherent whether it wasn't real writing or fantasy?) so it seems a good time to post this.

As a side note, I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to learn to write to read a few half-decent romance novels. Then read a few mysteries. In that order. They provide GREAT stepping stones to learning about the structures and expected elements of particular genres.
All genres have them, but the big ones are easier to pick up on in these two genres than in most, I've found. And seeing how those requirements function outside what you want to write is very helpful in identifying the ones inside your own genre.
