According to @gaystarnews, a statement by the Vatican may do one or more of the following, in order of impact:
1. Call for global end to death penalty for homosexuality
2. Call for global decriminalization of homosexuality
3. Publicly support same-sex unions (but not marriage)

I want to personally note that I recognize the enormity of these possibilities while not being the slightest bit celebratory for many, many other reasons, not the least of which is the likely exclusion of trans identities. I look at this as approaching--but not at--bare minimum.
