EU countries have yet to debate the extension issues amongst themselves. The 27 EU ambassadors had been scheduled to talk about it this morning but agreed not to do so as the UK hasn’t yet officially asked ..1
Of course it would have made sense to war game different extension scenarios but the EU wants the UK to have to sweat it out a bit, wondering what the EU response and conditions may be if/when Theresa May asks to delay #Brexit 2
The EU working assumption is that the PM will ask for an extension ahead of the EU leaders summit next Thursday 3

Despite her #BREXIT deal being defeated by biggest margin a government has lost a vote ever maybot seeks concessions on backstop despite being told to bog off by the EU with no realistic hope of a different answer
Corbyn meanwhile refuses to talk #BREXIT without no deal being ruled out despite knowing she can't do this whilst maybot makes no concessions either.

1) Get ready for a big #Brexit week this week - in Brussels and U.K.
2) European Commission decides today whether or not to delay 2 awaited publications scheduled for Wednesday appearance: paper on future EU-UK relationship and paper on stark EU intentions in case of no deal
3) These 2 papers could be used as carrot/sticks in negotiations but there’s a nervousness in EU circles to get tone right at this delicate coming-to-end-game state of #Brexit proceedings and not to be seen as bullying (remember Salzburg??)

The first point is that the clock is ticking, but time is standing still.

Raab talks about "good progress" but actually talks are at a standstill. He bounces around looking all perky and boxerly, but there's isn't much to say. On the tough stuff anyway. /2
Barnier says divorce deal is "80%" done, and deal can be clinched in 6-8 weeks IF the Brits are "realistic".

Markets jump for joy, but they overlook that "IF" and what Barnier means by "realistic".
