I think that many people with marginalized identities and experiences understand "your fave is problematic" on a deep, deep level. We understand that both can be true: 1/
1) That the work in question is flawed, carrying with it traces (or much more) of whatever toxic shit we are all marinated in AND ALSO 2/
2) That despite (and even sometimes because of) that toxicity, the work is or was meaningful to us. Both: True. 3/
3) I treasured The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis as a child. It shaped my psyche indelibly.

It's deeply misogynist.
It's thoroughly racist.
It puts forth some disturbing religious narratives.

I was shaped by that misogyny, racism, Christian theologies.

Both: True. 4/
That's just one example. I have many more. If, as a professional writer, you refuse to understand that many stories white women tell are stories we learned to tell from white supremacist patriarchy ... you have no business writing or reviewing the work of others. 5/5
