On March 20, trans writer/activist Brynn Tannehill tweeted a defamatory screed accusing Lisa Littman of trying to harm trans ppl & imputing nefarious motives to Littman & Lisa Marchiano. Read Brie Jontry's 13-tweet response below. Tannehill's thread here:
Meanwhile on the (public) Transgender Health FB page, Dr. Dan Karasic, a key member of WPATH & gender MD, calls Littman "lazy" & accuses her of concocting a "false hypothesis" (because someone wrote a book in 1997 about their late onset gender dysphoria?).

In the same thread, Tannehill appears to call Littman a "concern trolling Nazi" & "God help her if we ever cross paths." So much vitriol, all because Littman published an initial descriptive study of parental reports about their children's rapid onset gender dysphoria?
Activist Kelley Winters also thrashes Littman & lies about 4thWaveNow. Read the article Winters refers to & see if you agree it "attacks my sons & my legitimacy as a parent." (What the article does question is Winters' expertise re: pediatric transition.)

Full Facebook attack-thread below. The irony seems to be lost on the angry commenters that the photo accompanying the original post is the women of the @PiqueResProject , all of whom state they experienced a rapid onset of gender dysphoria in adolescence.

public service announcement: we are now living through the biggest anti-#trans backlash since the 1970s. it's been going on since at least 2016. it's not just Republicans or evangelicals – it's coming from numerous fronts. & most cis people seem entirely oblivious to it...
...I should really be working on a different piece I'm on deadline for. but this has been on my mind a lot today. I can't tell you how many cis friends I've talked to over the last two years, who know I'm a trans writer & activist, and will ask how that's all going...

Right, so buckle up: this is going to be a long thread about #trans representation in the media, trans responses to said media, and some thoughts on what we're doing wrong and what we could do right.

Ready? Okay.
There are two facts which are staggeringly apparent in the online UK #trans landscape at the moment:

1. The mainstream media is still in a transphobic backlash, and it's been getting nastier and more dangerous every month.
2. In our online communities - twitter and facebook in particular - we are spending WAY more time and attention responding to and magnifying these instances of backash than we are in promoting not only our successes, but even mildly positive or neutral works.
