If you oppose the press exhaustively covering criminal proceedings against six of the president’s aides and advisors, you are against journalism.

This is not a skeptical position, and you should not congratulate yourself for holding it.
If you are journalist espousing this position — while not attending or covering any of these proceedings and bashing those who provide the information that you dismiss — you are not engaging in reporting, but punditry and/or disinformation.
We still have not read a complete sentence of the Mueller report, and Mueller farmed out several investigations to other districts.

Should journalists hold off on speculation?

Of course; most responsible reporters have.

Should the press keep on this story?
Without question.
Saying so openly isn't biased or advocacy: It's defending the basic function of one's profession.
