The concept of power in Nigeria is so skewed and will take a cleansing of the process of growth before anything can change. It doesn’t start from the top, the problem plaguing the craving for power in Nigeria starts from the foundations of growth of the Nigerian child.
I remember growing up and how we attained power as kids, this was our first real taste of what power was- there was no level playing field, no meritocracy- it was always about the boy whose parents could grease the teachers hands the most, or the girl whose box had much goodies
This was our foundation of building character, yet we weren’t thought the basics of equality in getting power- if a child can get privilege because of what his/her parents have in nursery school, haven’t we polluted the process of acquiring power by a whole generation?
The child whose parent can afford to grease the teachers palm is taught a lesson to always depend on godfathers with a sense of entitlement & the child whose parents can’t afford any form of gratification of the teacher is made to believe manipulation or sycophancy is an option
Go and check all that you see play out right now in our political life can be easily reflected in the lives of nursery school children. Children learn to be manipulative and become sycophants right at that early age just to get a privilege of power- it doesn’t start at adulthood
Until we are ready and able to look through this process, I don’t see much changing in Nigeria as regards politics- the minds of many generations have been messed up and a thorough mind revolution is knocking at the door. @threadreaderapp do you thing, unroll
