Over a month ago @OSET warned GA officials that neither ES&S nor Dominion could meet #HB316's definition of an electronic ballot marker, which includes the requirement of a "voter-verifiable paper ballot." Will Kemp sign the bill that excludes ES&S? 1/

2.5/ CLARIFICATION---My point was that the barcode voting violates the Constitution. Voters cannot be legally be required to cast a barcode vote that they cannot read.

Thanks @rickhasen for exposing this issue for debate. @philipbstark & @rad_atl & @OSET, please weigh in here. What is missing is the understanding that the BMD (sometimes barcoded) ballot is not a reliable source record for auditing. BMD proponents are missing that point.
Thanks to @rickhasen blog, I saw this Tweet response from Becker that he blocks me from seeing. The bill does indeed require audits---audits that CANNOT be performed according to auditing experts (and common sense.) The ballot cannot be verified by the voter = unauditable.

2/ This unauditable BMD technology is being adopted at rapid rates by counties across the country without understanding the security risks and the inability to audit the results. The nation's leading expert in post-election auditing @philipbstark says--
3/ _ @OSET report explains that there is “no way for the voter to verify what choices are actually being counted, and hence for the majority of solutions, the ballot cannot be said to be “verifiable” by the voter.” [GA new bill requires voter-verifiable ballot. ES&S cannot meet.]

“Paper trail” is vendor code for NOT “hand marked paper ballots.” So much for @PAStateDept’s “blue ribbon” election security commission. Studies show paper trails can be corrupted to omit, add or change races, & voters won’t notice, rendering any manual audit useless! 1/

1/3 Was trying to remember when the ES&S hack was - when @VotingVillageDC reminded me last night. It was Aug 2017 - In the massive 1.8 mill #voter ES&S #data breach part of the download was...encrypted versions of passwords for ES&S employee accounts. usatoday.com/story/tech/201…
2/3 @UpGuard is the company who found the breach. “The worse-case scenario is that they could be completely infiltrated right now,” said Upguard's director of strategy Jon Hendren.

Progress! States are finally replacing touchscreen voting machines—which provide no means 4 voters 2 know if their votes were recorded correctly—w/ new touchscreen ballot markers, which also provide no means 4 voters 2 know if their votes were recorded correctly.

2/ Touchscreen voting machines—both w/ & w/o so-called Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATS)—are a disaster bc, among other reasons, voters lack X-ray vision and thus can’t know if the vote as recorded inside the machine matches the VVPAT and their intended selections.
3/ With touchscreen voting machines, regardless of a VVPAT, the only thing actually counted as your vote is whatever is recorded as your vote INSIDE the machine, which you can’t actually verify due to your lack of x-Ray vision.

Electronic ballot markers by ES&S—recently outed for selling systems w/ REMOTE ACCESS software—are spreading like cockroaches! They produce COMPUTER marked “paper ballots” w/ text & BARCODES. The only part of the ballot actually counted is the barcode, which humans can’t read! 1/
