Today, eight 'Labour' MPs will support the Tory Withdrawal Agreement if it gives to a Tory majority House of Commons power to set our negotiating objectives.

Have they forgotten that the reason the WA hasn't passed the Commons is because it's not right wing enough?

I remember when @OnnMel was so concerned about what leaving the EU would mean that she asked me to help draft a Private Members Bill to try and make it more difficult for workers' rights to be undermined. Where has Good @OnnMel gone? I want her back.

There is a majority in the country for revoking Article 50 and a majority against No Deal (mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article-6…).
If Article 50 is revoked - a far more likely possibility than the opinion formers in the media are telling you - there needs to be a process for trying to address the democratic deficit it creates. I have drafted such a process and large numbers of MPs are publicly supporting it.
Yes, it creates a democratic deficit. But let's be honest: so does every other option, including a public vote and the Withdrawal Agreement.

But the process in the Motion - ie a public inquiry followed by a possible referendum - does one important thing no other option does.

If we can't agree a deal we want:
1. We ask for an extension
2. If the EU says no there's no time for a referendum so
3. Parliament chooses between either (1) No Deal or (2) Revoking, with a commitment to a public inquiry into what we want and a possible further notification
Signatories include @joannacherry, Dominic Grieve, @vincecable, @CarolineLucas, @heidiallen75, @LSRPlaid, @rushanaraali and many, many others. Please ask your MP to add their names, for voting on on Monday.
There is a really serious, genuine democratic case to be made for this motion - and even for revoke with the mandatory process that follows. Have pitched this to a couple of broadsheets and hope I'll be asked to write it.

RE: separating the political declaration (future relationship) from the withdrawal agreement, I think there are really four important aspects to the PD (THREAD)
1) Is the actual content of the declaration. It doesn't say a lot and doesn't agree anything. It's full of sentences like: "The future relationship will be based on a balance of rights and obligations, taking into account the principles of each Party”. Not very specific!

There is a lot of confusion on Twitter about the possibility of the gov asking MPs to approve ONLY the Withdrawal Agreement part of the deal tomorrow.
This may partly be a result of the different requirements at play in EU law and UK law:
- As a matter of UK LAW, MPs need to approve the WA and PD before the UK can ratify the WA (unless the requirement in the EU (Withdrawal) Act is changed by a new piece of primary legislation). This is what the 'meaningful votes' have been trying to do.
- As a matter of EU law, on 22 March the EU agreed to extent to 12 April (unconditionally), but put a condition on a longer extension to 22 May- that MPs approve the WA part of the deal (i.e. not nec the political declaration part) by the end of this week

Last time on Brexit: UK prime minister Theresa May, aka the Limpet's Limpet, was clinging to power after her long-postponed Withdrawal Agreement with the EU was defeated in the House of Commons by a record margin.
I’ve written before about the madness at the heart of Brexit: unless the UK remains closely aligned to EU rules, there’ll be a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, or between NI and the rest of the UK. Terrible idea on every level.

Tory whips had assumed Anna Soubry would jump ship when new group was established on Monday. Suspicions grew that afternoon when she failed to vote in three Commons votes even though she was neither slipped nor paired. Tory whips saying the three have gone ‘very very silent’

1. #Labour now seem to be unified in calling for a customs union. This to me looks like the sleepy kid at the back of the class suggesting something to make it look like he was paying attention. It is a non-solution to #Brexit. Thread...
2. Because it has the word "customs" in the name, they believe it has magical properties that bring about frictionless trade. As the Commission pointed out a year ago, this simply is not the case.
3. Frictionless trade is the byproduct of a system of behind the border controls which is largely to do with regulatory harmonisation - ie the single market. Without it, there will need to be controls at or near the border.

First off, we must thank-you all. We launched a poll on Monday expecting maybe 500 responses maximum. Instead we had a whopping three-thousand-two-hundred-and-thirty votes on our Twitter poll.

That’s ridiculous.
We asked you which party you thought had the oldest average age of MPs.

Most of you, 66%, thought it was the @Conservatives, then the @LibDems (15%), then @UKLabour (14%), with the @theSNP coming in last with (5%).

I bet the SNP are feeling fairly youthful right about now.
