Give it a whirl. You may be surprised... For instance, there have been 10 EU-funded projects and schemes over the years within a mile of my house. Stuff I would never have known about.

Before you say "it's our money", the EU through its regional development fund ensures that a good proportion of the funding goes to the most deprived areas - exactly the sort of places that successive UK Governments have turned their backs on.

And it is crystal clear that the current UK Government has no intention whatsoever to replicate the funds the EU currently distribute. That promise was made during the referendum campaign by people who were in no position to enforce it. Broken as soon as the result came in.

Finally, have a little scroll around the map. See just how much money is flowing to the North of England, Wales etc. Leave-voting areas have benefitted enormously from EU funding, even if they don't realise or appreciate it. Once we're out, the UK Government will ignore them.

Reminder: the funds aren't forced down people's necks. Projects are applied for and rated accordingly to EU's criteria, taking into account the area they're in. Plus some have a match funding requirement eg the EU agrees to pay 50% up to a certain level if funding matched.
